2010/06/01 Technology: Why I went Mac...

Returning to this issue is something that I have been reluctant to do, simply because of how over done this issue is, but instead of discussing this from an objective perspective, I thought I would throw a little personal emotion into the mix and tell you why I went Mac…

All things considered, I am new to the Mac movement and have literally had my Mac – laptop – I made a conscious decision to be mobile with my Mac in the beginning and possibly move onto a bigger, more powerful desktop machine at a later stage – what I wasn’t expecting was to receive the amount of performance I did get out of the little 13” I bought to begin with. Needless to say, I was immediately impressed and like all beginners to Mac…overwhelmed.

Navigating through the Mac was something that quickly became second nature as flattening out all windows to pick and choose from a far was an incredible sense of empowerment…something I never received from using a normal PC. Handling a Mac truly does open your mind up to a different way of navigation through a digital world. Unfortunately, if you have never played a First Person Shooter (FPS) game then you will not understand what I’m talking about…for those of you who have…try and think back to the first time you started understanding and maintaining control over our viewing capabilities when running or interacting in the game itself. It’s very empowering! Now, I can relate that directly to what it feels like gaining control over a Mac’s navigation and orientation system…it’s an ego trip and I can honestly tell you that it never gets boring…EVAR!

Okay, maybe that was somewhat digressive for those who haven’t got a clue what a “FPS” game is (rolls eyes) – I kid the normal people – regardless, I have digressed and getting back to the issue at hand…the experience of navigating through a Mac…it’s incredible…it truly is and I don’t care if you are Bill Gates’ nephew…you’ll like and you’ll like it long time!

Apart from actually working on a Mac, there are some other key elements to owning a Mac or Apple product that simply “defines” you – okay, so it doesn’t define you – but it can, if you let it – I know iDid…*chuckles*…moving on…Apple have created a world just for you and your Mac products. In essence, they have created and developed a product for almost every technology need you may have at this very moment in time…! It’s true…think about it, you’ve got an iPod, maybe it’s a new one…or a really old one, remember…the one with the Blue Screen (snazzy), then it got old…so you bought another one…*oooh*…then Apple released the iPod Mini…now, you have to get it, I mean, it’s exactly the same technology, only smaller! Then the next generation of Apple laptops came out and you just had to try it out and admittedly, once someone step over to the “Mac-Side” of PC’s…it’s all over! I have never met someone who has gone from PC to Mac and then back to Mac. Sadly, I do know of some who have “Windows for Mac”, which honestly is the biggest act of sacrilege one can ever commit, but it does happen.

iFamily...now that's what I call a strong Gene-Pool...!
iFamily...now that's what I call a strong Gene-Pool...!

So, now you have the new iPod Mini and an Apple Mac laptop…what’s next? *Ooooh*…how about Apple’s newest release (speaking in past tense context), the iPod Touch – looks like an iPhone – acts like an iPhone – but only plays music, but what the hell, it’s cool, it’s Apple, so you have to have it! Next…the new iPhone 3GS…yes, I’ll have one thanks…oh, and the new i7 24” iMac…oh…and while you’re back there, won’t you grab me a 32G iPad (Apple’s newest release – present day context)…now you are complete…head to toe…Mac-ni-fi-cent! It’s a little scary to think that some people have truly embrace the Mac-Life and have started their own little, as I like to call it, iFamily (Patent Pending).

I’ll admit it, it’s addictive. Apple have created a series of products that keeps you wanting more, wanting the next best thing because each product becomes more and more manageable the more experience you become with it. Practise makes perfect I guess…now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go see a iStore about a “Magic Mouse”…!
