The thought that comes to mind when one pictures a Lamborghini is first and foremost, the logo. Thoughts of “running with the bulls in Pamplona” or “taking the bull by the horns” be it in life or business. The brand speaks of aggression, steadfast assertiveness and an individualism that says…”we might not be the prettiest, but you’ll know who and what we are when we can see us careening through the traffic in your rear-view mirror”.
The Lamborghini LP 560-4 (2008-) is just another one of those dream cars one puts on their wish list. The physical presence, short, stout and low as it may be exudes a type of aggression and poise that only a Lamborghini can portray. The LP 560 has more gizmo’s and gimmicks than a Swiss Army knife and will damn sure be able to get you further from danger than a 3 inch blade will, in half the time I may add.
Unlike other supercars, Lamborghini have maintained a sense of individualism from yester years. Their devotion to practicality and a simplistic styling ethos has secured their place in the automobile history books as a brand focused on performance and practicality. What is appealing about Lamborghini is that they know who they are, an unpretentious sense of style and appeal that is unmatched in the world of supercar brands.
The Lamborghini LP 560-4 is powered by a new 5.2L V10 with direct injection, with improved power and torque. The engine is heavily based on the new Audi RS6 V10. Unlike the precedent engine, this engine no longer has split crankpins, so it is not even firing, but Lamborghini says that due to the stiffer crankshaft it has fewer vibrations than the previous engine.
Transmission choices include six-speed manual or a six-speed E-gear, with E-gear revised to change gears by a rotational selector instead of a fore/aft movement, which offers 40% quicker shifts. E-gear also added Corsa setting and Thrust Mode launch control system.
The car was also 20 kg (44 lb) lighter than 2008 base Gallardo. Other changes include a new front bumper influenced by the Murciélago and exterior lights influenced by the Lamborghini Reventón.
Gallardo LP 560-4 has base price of US$198,000 (approx. R2.3M), but can go over $322,000 (approx. R4.2M) with e-gear, carbon ceramic brakes, navigation and other options. Other factory options are available with Ad Personam program. The British version has MSRP of £147,330.00 ($235,730 USD) (approx. R3M), including NavTrak vehicle tracking system and delivery package.
The vehicle was unveiled at 2008 Geneva Auto Show.
In an episode of Top Gear (appropriately driven by the testosterone fueled Jeremy Clarkson), the LP 560-4 managed a lap of 1:19.5, faster than the Ferrari F430 Scuderia, the Nissan GT-R, and its counterpart, the Lamborghini Murciélago LP640.
The first production LP560-4 was built with help of Automobile Magazine journalist.
The first US car was sold in 16th Annual Race to Erase MS charity auction for $270,000 (approx. R2.8M) to former True Religion Jeans co-founder/co-creator Kymberly Gold and music producer Victor Newman.

The Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder was unveiled at 2008 LA Auto Show. The LP560-4 Spyder has a rather more limited top speed than the LP560-4 coupe. The drop-top addition has limited this version's top speed to around 200 mph (over 320km/h).

Driving a Lamborghini or at the very least, being in one could be compared to being simultaneously tickled to death by a sexually charged Norwegian barmaid while riding the scariest roller coaster imaginable…backwards. There are no frills here, no preppy logo’s, no false promises, no sense of pretentiousness, just simple driving excellence matched with brute strength and minimalistic styling. It is the stuff of dreams...that very same dream where, “running with the bulls” is what you do......for fun.
