2010/01/13 Lifestyle: "Logo-Shhmogo...!"

This article is here to highlight the New South African branding logo that will be used to promote the country, on an international basis I may add, over the duration leading up to the World Cup 2010 and there after. There hasn’t been much discussion over this and this is exactly why I’m bringing this to everyone’s attention!
Errmm...I don't likey very muchy...!
Errmm...I don't likey very muchy...!

Firstly, where was the country’s involvement in the development of this logo? Where was the crowd sourcing? Where was the debate? Where were the “trendy and innovative” agencies such as Saatchi & Saatchi and DDBO when it came to the development and design of the logo? I feel completely disgruntled about the end result as, in my personal opinion, has finished up being somewhat sub-par in regards to whatever image or branding South Africa has “OK’ed” in the past!

Secondly, couldn’t we have moved beyond using the South African Flag? Don’t get me wrong, I love our flag and the national colors, but this logo appears to have been designed by a 1st year graphic design student…it’s crap…there, I said it, do something about it! With the World Cup looming over South Africa, is this the best we can do as a nation…? I hope this gets recalled before the WC2010 begins! It’s more than just a reflection on our creativity as a nation, it’s speaks volumes for the intercommunication between politicians and the people of South Africa, never mind the creative’s who should have been behind the drive for a better, more sophisticated branding for us as a nation!

Sadly in the end, I think that this could be the final word for the country’s branding options…I hope that this article and the response that it hopefully drums-up will influence the powers that be to re-evaluate the logo and eventually put a better spin on things!

Wait...maybe if they represented it like this...

Cornering Chevron FAIL...x 3!!!
Cornering Chevron FAIL...x 3!!!

No...that looks even worse!

...what about this...???

Absurb Dead-End Chevron FAIL...!!!
Absurb Dead-End Chevron FAIL...!!!

Epic Fail...again!

Let's face it...it's crap, there are no two ways about it.
