Be a good mate with Castle and SACAB |
|
|
|
As some of you might know, Castle Larger is running a responsible drinking campaign over the “Silly Season” as it has been appropriately named. Now, don’t count your beer cans before you stack’em just yet…this is not what you think it is, as was done in the past when this time of year rolls in, most manufacturers and distributors such as Castle and SAB have always done their bit to educate people about he dangers of drinking and driving, especially around the holiday season and this year is no different, but they have taken a slightly different approach. |

How did you know...?
|
This year, Castle have teamed up with SACAB, a well respected and trusted cab service in South Africa, to run the “Be a good mate” campaign. The campaign entails nominating one friend, on your night of debauchery, to be a designated driver…sounds simple enough right...? Well it damn well should be. Drinking and driving statistics in South Africa are through the roof. Now this campaign is not aimed at educating people about drinking and driving, they are expecting you know your oats by now – we’re all big boys – and they are “almost” insinuating…”Please, go out and get slammed, just don’t go any where near a car” – seems pretty simple if you ask me.
This kind of honest and mature campaign is a refreshing spin on the wooden spoon waving of yester-years. We know it’s “naughty” to drive drunk. We know there are cops on the roads. We know we’ll go to jail if caught - this campaign allows us to put that knowledge to good use and pull shortest straw for “Designated-Dave” and the rest is beer and hangovers.
Castle have released this statement with their downloadable .pdf direct from their website:
“With the festive season on our doorstep and much partying to be done, the hero is the guy who volunteers to stay below the legal limit and drive his mates home. And Castle Lager, the beer that brings friends together, is now making sure that friends look out for each other.
Castle Lager and taxi service SACAB have partnered to promote responsible behaviour this festive season by encouraging designated driver behaviour, where one friend takes it upon himself to get his mates home safely after a night out.
Participate at one of 80 outlets countrywide. Nominate yourself as a designated driver or the night to Castle Lager promoters at the various venues. You will undergo a breathalyser test when you register and another one towards the end of the evening. You can enjoy complimentary soft drinks to help you stay below the legal limit.
I you are below the legal limit at the end of the evening, you will be entered into a lucky draw to stand a chance of winning a year’s free taxi rides from SACAB. Check out the Castle Lager phones in the selected outlets which give you direct access to SACAB to arrange a safe lift home after a night out during the festive season and beyond.
So, why not take one for the team and become the designated driver for the evening and ensure your friends get home safely? Watch out for “Designated Driver” events in your area and see how it all comes together with a Castle. “

As I mentioned before, no baby-sitting, just a simple use of direct, mature marketing.
Castle, we salute you.
