Event Wrap Up:

One of the models strutting her alternative stuff...
|
In terms of a well run event, this one takes the cake. With a smorgasbord of live entertainment, gorgeous alternative beauties to gander at and some incredible body art on display...the night could not have gotten any better.
For a tad bit of criticism, the opening speaker - understandably excited about the event as owner of Jaded Ink Tattoo Parlour - went on for slightly longer than what he should have. As soon as the the MC moved aside the fashion show began...
Each model displayed their own set of tattoos as the rest of their body was covered in blackening makeup with white accents. The overall effect of the show was incredibly appealing as one would understand that not all (if any) of the live "models" had any modeling experience whatsoever. Regardless of that, they all held their own, but what was remarkable was the "work" (industry word for the amount of tattooing one has had done) some of the models have had done in their lives. Some over exaggerated and some posed with some incredibly minimal writing and text on their bodies which to me personally, is much more appealing than overly done tattoos.

J-Namic doing this "thing" as lead rapper in the group

The tattooing barrage showcased one artist after another as each model displayed a different tattoo from the next. It's interesting to see how each artist has their own specific style and are in which they focus their talents such as wording and text to portraits or the more traditional pieces such as fantasy based works, either mythical-dragons or tribal patterning. There were approximately 3-4 artists who displayed their works on the live models and all in all, the show was a great success and all the live models acted with professionalism and poise.
The interval was just short enough for a smoke and to grab another beer and to ready one's self for the next performance. Urban Reign literally blew me away. I have not been exposed to a "fresher" (new and connective) sound since the first time I listened to GoldFish (an instrumental South African Jazz/Pop group). Their performance was stellar and with a slightly more interactive audience, I'm almost certain that this group has the potential to be as big as any other great South African group...!
Urban Reign pride themselves on being a conglomeration of proudly South African personalities and cultures. A part from that, most of them have had seriously significant "work done" and they are more than happy to show it off! This group has something real, fresh and proudly South African to offer the SA music scene and will be watched extremely closely by the ZAGlamour Team.

To conclude:
The event seemed like a massive success with the interlacing of proudly South African brands and a spotlight on what seems to be a heavily growing alternative arts culture here in South Africa. For all of you who believe that tattooing is a sub-culture, think again...tattooing is here to stay and will hopefully grow into a generally accepted way of recording life, experiences and showing ones true passion for the people and the world around them.
Jaded Ink...congratulations on a superb event, we wish you all the very best of luck with many more years to come...
Keep the Ink flowing...
