1. What is your favorite thing to indulge into to keep the creativity going?

Weirdest obsession ever...!
I watch cartoons. I collect dvds of my favourites (Ren and Stimpy, Spongebob, Happy Tree Friends) and watch them over and over ad nauseum. I also collect super-cool, inspirational art and illustration books from all over the world and am constantly flipping through them.
Also, a few vodkas never hurt when the dreaded Artists' Block strikes.
2. Have you ever thought of starting your own independent cartoon strip?
Yes!! That is one of my dreams- to one day have my own book of cartoons published. My absolute favourite (unfortunately not available in SA) is "Get Fuzzy" by Darby Conley. I highly recommend you google it. My website is currently under development but one of the things I am considering is to include a weekly comic strip.

3. Are you currently producing your “Scribbles” as commercial entities?
Alas, no. I will be the first to admit I have been very slack in that department.(Bloody scatterbrained artists). But this year that is all gonna change!
4. Have you exhibited your work and where?

Canvas printed for purchase...amazing!
I have. Had my first exhibition (joint with a few other creatives) in a cool little studio in Loop street last year. I had never seen myself as an artist who could exhibit prints of their work, but this made me see that it is a possibility and is something I would love to do again.
>>>Personal comment<<<
The exhibition hosted an array of Nicole's pieces, ranging from her sketches to canvas to colour prints. Her work is visceral, real, in touch with the "kid" in all of us. This light-hearted approach to serious, somwtimes draining emotional states is just the dash of disinfectant society needs to "stop and smell the flowers"!

Loop Street Exhibition - Nicole Blomkamp
It was extremely theraputic in the sense that it helped me in the process of overcoming my fear of failure. Once your work is up there, its out, and you just have to deal with the fact that people are gonna see it.
It made me stronger. Also watching people look at your work and laugh or smile is THE BEST feeling ever.
>>>Personal comment<<<
Displaying and exhibiting your work as an artist is heart-wrenching and nerve-racking for any art-veteran...this being Nicole's "opening night" must have kept her a bag of nerves the entire evening! It takes courage to bare one's soul...considering the fact that her sketches were never considered to be commercial entities, they were always regarded - mainly by herself - as personal expressions of how she feels at a time in her life. This sense of personal attachment to a set of work, especially art is one of the most difficult experiences one can go through! Ask any artist, comedian or performer who places their heart and soul on a plate for either abuse or love! "Bravery" is the word that comes to mind...!

5. Where do your currently live in SA?
Camps Bay, Cape Town. SUCH a tough life. Drinking a vodka martini on the balcony watching the ocean as I write this. God knows how Joburgers don't all just slit their tiny armani-cufflinked wrists.
>>>Personal comment<<<
(Insert snide response here!)

6. What do you love best about home?
Have you SEEN Cape Town?! God, SO many things. My favourite is the Camps Bay strip. Within one beautiful kilometre you have a magnificent beach, the smell of the ocean intermingled (did I just use that word?)with coconut sunblock and shellfish being grilled in nearby restaurant, and the best beach bar in the world- Caprice- full of delicious 20-something boys just waiting to shower me in compliments and shots and experience the Older Woman vibe. Need I say more?

7. Are your “scribbles” an outlet for emotional stress or are they something you tend to develop on a random basis?

Diverse, Talented and Fun - This is Nicole Blomkamp
Both. It depends on the mood I’m in. I can happily sit and randomly draw for hours, but at the same time I draw huge inspiration from events and emotions I am personally experiencing. For example- I once drew a picture of me lying hungover in bed on the phone to a barman who was revealing my large unpaid bar tab from the previous night, while a guy lay snoring behind me.
Half-finished bottle of vodka and pink underwear on the floor. You get the picture. Currently I am keen on drawing a super sexy, no-nonsense-type woman in a negligee taking out a trash bag labeled "Boys and their shit". You can guess my current frame of mind in the male department from that one. (But said frame may all change tomorrow, so I keep those ideas on reserve.)
8. Are you currently involved? (For the male readers!)
Nope. Random fun here and there, but nothing serious.(May have something to do with the fact that the only men that seem to hit on me are 19 yr old students so f_cked on tequila that they forget my name every 3 seconds, or 60+ men with a large collection of jewelry, 2 ex-wives and a Lambo they will be paying off until the day they die. For the record, nothing wrong with 19 year olds-thanks Robert, you know who you are. Hope varsity is going well.)
>>>Personal comment<<<
Yes gents, this talent, gorgeous, twist of perfection is single. Now, do yourself a favour and pick up your game...this stunning artist has high standards. If you thinking of approaching this talented vixen, make sure you listen and you listen up good...! Impressing perfection is not something to be taken lightly!
9. What are your finest qualities?
The boring, cliched ones- I am fiercely loyal. Also generally very optimistic. The abstract ones- I have an offbeat sense of humour and know how to handle a sportscar.

Yes...that's a Porsche...AND yes, that's Nicole, flipping off Metro! I'm "in love"!
10. What qualities do you look for in a suitable partner? (Another one for the guys!)
In no particular order, superficial and non-superficial mixed: A good sense of humour. Long dark hair. (Please note - exceptions can be made - send your picture and details to my Facebook page). He has to 'get' me and my sense of humour. Non-judgemental. No anger management candidates please. Good kisser (funny - I've experienced awful guy kissers, but never awful girls. Men - Hurry up and learn, there is no excuse). Super affectionate - I am very touchy-feely and need a guy who loves this about me and acts the same.

If you don't measure up...don't bother!

>>>Personal comment<<<
If you haven't fallen head over heels for this amazing woman yet, you might need to check your sexual orientation! Trying my best to be as objective as possible when commenting on the type of woman Nicole is, is extremely difficult.
Her persona is infectious as she has the ability to widen your smile with a single gaze.
This talented South African artist is literally sitting on the precipice of Worldly Success...this is one to pay close attention to!
11. What does the future hold for “Blomkamp’s Scribbles”?
Ok let me take the no-holds-barred approach. Ideally- I would like to one day have my own comic strip and publish a book of them. I would love to regularly sell prints of my work to fans worldwide. I want to write and illustrate a few Tim Burton-esque type books which have a steady following.

Raw South African talent...
(For example: 'The Melancholy Death Of Oyster Boy & Other Stories) and I want to work with big companies the way that "Fafi" did with MAC (Google it). I want to always be able to do what I love without a struggle.
>>>Personal comment<<<
Now those of you who thought you knew everything there is to know about the development of MAC (The makeup giants) ---> Check out the link at the end of the interview to see what kind of creative collaborations are happening all around us. "Fafi" has lent a hand to the mega corporation to possibly appeal to a different kind of consumer, possibly a younger or more creative consumer...! their sketches and "scribbles" compliment and enhance the already high aesthetic appeal of the MAC products.

12. How can your fans get in touch with you if they were interested in purchasing one of your prints?

If you get your hands on this...frame it...trust me...
My website is still in the development stages, but you can Facebook me on Nicole Blomkamp. I will soon be on Twitter, Flicker, Cargo, Behance and Linkedin.
I can't WAIT to get my website up!
